Building on its commitment to further youth development; LASCO Financial Services Limited (LFSL) through its consumer facing brand LASCO Money and remittance partner MoneyGram, announced the 2020-21 recipients of its LASCO Money Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Scholarship.
Twenty promising recipients were celebrated during the LASCO Money Lunch and Learn event on Friday, February 21, 2020.
The scholarship, recognizes secondary level students who have demonstrated perseverance to overcome adversity and achieve their academic goals. Last year, students across the island were awarded scholarships valued at $10,000 each for the 2018 – 2019 cohort.
For 2019-2020, the scholarship value was increased to $15,000, which was matched by MoneyGram resulting in each student receiving $30,000 to cover the requisite fees associated with the subjects: Principles of Business, Principles of Accounts, Information Technology, Economics and French or Spanish.
“We believe that as lifelong learners, our nation’s youth most valuable lesson is to seize every opportunity for advancement with gusto,” explained Danielle Drysdale, marketing manager at LASCO Financial Services Limited.
“LASCO Money is always compassionate to the needs of our young people. We are happy to continue paying it forward by positively impacting the lives of these talented students. The financial pressures on parents are staggering, however, we are determined to lend our assistance in whatever way we can and in turn, students can take a more thoughtful approach to their education and ultimately their career path,” she continued.
Fueled by its vision for equal opportunities for growth for Jamaica’s youth, the last five years for LFSL have been dedicated to knowledge-sharing initiatives like the CSEC Scholarship programme.
Seaforth High School, a jubilant scholarship recipient, Tanikalee Harrison noted, “I was relieved to receive this scholarship from LASCO Money and MoneyGram. It has given me even more motivation to keep going and realize my dream of becoming a civil servant. It’s a great feeling to know that my hours spent studying and being active in my school are being recognized.”
Recipients are: Iannikaye Brown and Janielle Betton from Merl Grove High School; Deninka Harriot and Damani Burton from Papine High School; Jamaree Johnson and Kyle Walker from Calabar High School; Kedesha Morris and Kimani Smith from Ocho Rios High School; Shawnta Russell and Imagio Francis from Dinthill Technical High School; Asia Bell and Derrick Banny from Tichfield High School; Oshane Stewart and Devonte Griffiths from Cornwall College; Britannia Thomas and Kamala Walker from Paul Bogle High School; Tanikalee Harrison and D-Jaun Miller from Seaforth High School and Andre Bedward and Shante Smith from Glenmuir High School.
