Responding to the threat posed by the global pandemic, COIVD-19; LASCO Distributors Limited (Pharmaceutical Division) in partnership with ROCHE Diagnostics is pleased to provide increase COVID-19 testing for the entire island using the COBAS 6800.
The COBAS 6800 machine recently installed at the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) in Kingston was commissioned on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 when the first batch of COVID-19 test was done. The test is intended for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, in nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab samples from patients.

COBAS 6800 is able to deliver 384 results in eight hours a total of 1152 tests in 24 hours. Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton; Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jacqueline Bisasor-McKenzie; Director, Dr. Michelle Hamilton and Mrs. Hortense Edwards were present to commission the COBAS 6800 machine for the first batch of COVID-19 tests.
